EU VEGN DAVO PIGNA
2006
Eu vegn davo pigna is a heated bench for the private living space. The concept takes a closer look at the traditional culture of the Swiss Alps. The furniture's formal and functional expression traces characteristic elements of the cultural atmosphere in the Alps and displays an identity rooted within this culture.
The warmth is generated by a heating pad which is imbedded in the sandstone seating surface of the bench. Once heated up, the stone gives off heat for about three hours. A hand-woven blanket filled with cherry pits offers a unique seating comfort besides of its additional function as heat reservoir.
The term ‚Eu vegn davo pigna’ is rooted in the Rhaeto-Romanic language and can be translated with ‚I am going behind the stove’. It is an old idiom to say goodbye to a friend in the sense of ‚I am going home, where it is cosy’. The stove represents a central meeting place for the family in the living area and a place to retreat.
